2025 COMPETITION 1 - REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
Welcome back to all our returning players and welcome to all our new basketball players.
Season Dates - U8s to U13s (Yr1-Yr 6)
The season begins on 8th February 2025 and runs through to 5th April 2025 for U8 & U10 and 29th March 2025 for U12 & U13 (unless qualifying for finals).

Registrations are now open. Registrations CLOSE on Wednesday 20th November, 2024 AT 5:00PM.
The registration fee is $290 this fee is designed to cover the following areas:

Students are no longer permitted to wear sports uniform on basketball training days UNLESS it is their actual allocated sports day.
Please pack a change of clothes & sneakers for your child to change into prior to training in the school grounds. Parent supervisors are able to assist with tying shoe laces etc.
Basketball is a team sport and all players must be available to attend training every week if they would like to play. In adverse weather conditions, training will be cancelled. Parents will be notified by Compass & team WhatsApp groups.

Coaches and Managers
We are very fortunate to have a professional coach and assitant coaches for the 2025 season. The aim of employing a qualified coach is to assist our parent volunteer coaches. These coaches will work in partnership with our volunteer parent coaches by developing weekly training plans, leading drills and supporting parent coaches. Most importantly, through this partnership, our aim is to develop the basketball skills of our players in a positive environment.
Each team needs a parent coach and team manager.
Please contact the basketball coordinators if you would like to volunteer.
All parent volunteers must have below in place before the comp begins.

Supervisors
In addition to Coaches and Managers, each team requires a volunteer parent Supervisor throughout each training session. The roster for Supervision is decided once the season kicks off. To be clear, Supervisors are expected to carry out the following roles and responsibilities:
- Ask the Coaches how you can support them. This applies especially for the Year 1 and Year 2 cohorts.
- Actively participate in training. On top of supervising, it is important that you actively engage and encourage the students.
- Report all behavioural incidents in accordance with the Behavioural Incident Policy.
- Report all injuries, including all head injuries to the Basketball Coordinators. Please also try to notify the child's parent(s).
- If the fire alarm goes off during training, please evacuate the school by following school care across the road to the Church.
Forfeit Procedure
If your team needs to forfeit, you must:
Notify Norths via the NSBA front desk.
Please call 02 9906 7877 and Press 3 for the front desk.
Please note that you must speak to a staff member to confirm your forfeit - leaving a voicemail does not mean that your forfeit is confirmed.
This must be done by 3:00PM on the day prior to your game.AND
Email the Basketball Coordinators at shmbbcoordinators@gmail.com.
Please provide your team name and the date and time of your game in the email.
Team Grading Process
Our basketball program grades all the children from Year 2 to 6 to ensure they play in a team where their team mates are of a similar standard. Experience has told us that children will learn, grow and enjoy their basketball experience more if they are placed in teams where their ability is like that of their team mates.
The grading process is conducted by our Head Coach together with an independent grader for Yr 2 to Yr 6 players. Once the assessment has been evaluated all parents will be advised of team allocations accordingly for the 2025 season.
Players are constantly assessed throughout the season to create a fair and level playing field for our participants. It is crucial that players attend training, show good sportsmanship throughout training and games and display a positive attitude to learning in order to improve their game.
If the head coach observes a player after 3 games of the season during games and training and believes a regrade is required then they may adjust accordingly. This may mean that all teams in that year group will need to have changes made. This regrading will only occur if the Head coach deems this regrade absolutely necessary. Changes will be communicated and then no further changes will be made after round 3 of the competition.
Grading 2025 for Comp 1 2025 Yr 2-Yr 6
Formal grading will take place prior to Comp 1 2025 starting. This grading is important as some children have improved during the season. It also gives any mid-year newcomers who may have missed the previous grading a chance to be graded correctly.

Uniforms
We do not include uniforms in the cost of our registration fee.
The basketball singlet $42.00 and matching shorts are $35.00.

If you are new to basketball at Sacred Heart or just require a new size for your child for Comp 1, 2025 please place your order and pay via Try Booking ASAP prior to Comp registration closing. Uniforms have a long lead time and there is no guarantee they will be available for the start of the season.
2025 Kindy Skills - Registrations - TBC
Registrations for Term 2 Kindy Basketball Skills 2025 will be coming up.
Kindy skills will run for 8 weeks on Monday's from 3:10pm - 4:00pm.

NSBA Registration - paid annually (in addition to Sacred Heart Fee)
The Northern Suburbs Basketball Association (NSBA) requires each player to register and pay the NSBA on a yearly basis. First time players, please ensure this is paid before the first game, if your name is highlighted at the sign-in desk at North’s, this means your registration has expired and needs to be renewed.
The fee set by NSBA covers liability insurance. This fee is in ADDITION to the $250 SHM Registration fee.
Active Kids Voucher
The NSW Government is helping kids get active while assisting families with the cost of playing sport by providing a voucher to parents/guardians of children enrolled at school. This voucher can be used when registering for Sacred Heart Basketball. You will need to apply for the voucher before registering for basketball. Please send your Active Kids number, name and date of birth to the basketball coordinators to claim your voucher towards your basketball fees. The voucher is valued at $50 now and is means tested.
